As we approach the one-year anniversary of October 7th, the reality for families in Gaza is unfathomable. It can be difficult to talk to your child about what you and they may be feeling, especially as we fight burnout and work to keep eyes on Gaza during a crowded election year.
We need ways to keep hope and light alive as we continue supporting our communities both near and far. With this suncatcher star activity we invite you to harness the light in your life and create a space for conversation with your child and a reminder of the light we all carry inside.

Three ways to make a suncatcher star
Great for: Ages 1-5
Materials needed: Clear contact paper, tissue paper, construction paper
Great for: Ages 5 and up
Materials needed: Coffee stirrers or popsicle sticks, tissue paper, hot glue or glue dots
Great for: Ages 7 and up
Materials needed: Kite paper or tissue paper
Get the conversation going
Here are some questions to talk about while you are making the suncatcher:
What activities make you happy and calm?
What people, things or animals in your community bring you joy?
What gifts do you have inside that can bring joy and support to others?
Take a deep breath together and think about how the light feels in your body. Is it warm and fuzzy? Like water swooshing through you? A strong beam of energy?
Keep the light shining
Together, hang your stars in a window where you’ll see them often. You can even consider hanging them in a window where your neighbors can see them, to help start conversations outside your home.
Each time you walk by the star in your window, remember that feeling of light in your body.
